Festival opening night Kate Ceberano

Opening night features multi award winning artist Kate Ceberano in conversation with freelance writer and journalist Paul Bateman, talking about her beautifully illustrated memoir, Unsung. Kate has excelled in the music business for over 40 years and is one of the most prolific female artists in her generation. Kate’s book, Unsung, features her inspirational song lyrics, stories, and artworks from her four decades of song writing and recording.

Hear authors in conversation, such as:

  • Brimbank local Michelle Bourke, who travelled the world with a cardboard cut-out of her late husband Paul
  • LGBTQIA+ author Holden Sheppard in conversation with Stephen Russell
  • Australian Afro-Caribbean author Maxine Beneba Clarke in conversation with Alice Pung OAM, and
  • parenting expert, adolescent psychologist and author Michael Carr-Gregg talking with local author and schoolteacher Amra Pajalic.

For the foodies, journey into the vibrant world of cookbooks and children’s literature, with The Art of Food with Saskia Ericson and Alice Oehr; and celebrate Harmony Day with Meatballs around the World, hosted by the Country Women’s Association.

Singer and author Mitch Tambo

In a special event for families, hear Australian world music star and acclaimed First Nations recording artist, Mitch Tambo perform songs from his upcoming children’s album and explore the importance of language revitalisation and his commitment to celebrating diversity and creativity.

There will also be a special screening of the film The Last Daughter, a powerful and inspiring story that unearths the truth and reconciles two sides of a family and one woman’s journey to reconnect with her Aboriginal roots.
