1. Take a walk, collect some leaves and bring them to life in a stop motion animation
Nature and art is always a great combination! With Autumn fast approaching, why not take a walk to your local park or along your favourite Brimbank waterway and collect leaves of all colours, shapes and sizes which have fallen to the ground.
Once you’ve enjoyed the great outdoors, take your leaf collection home and turn them into something creative: leaf rubbings or a stop motion animation!
2. Walk, scoot or ride along the Kororoit Creek trail to a volcano themed playground
The Kororoit Creek trail winds its way through the stunning parklands of West Sunshine, Albion, Cairnlea and Deer Park. At the start of the trail in Brimbank, follow the pathway to Isabella Williams Memorial Reserve, Deer Park. Here you’ll find a fantastic, volcano-themed playground, exploding with fun!
Designed to represent Victoria’s volcanic western plains, colourful play surfaces ‘ooze’ like lava down the sides of a volcano in the centre of the playground. You’ll also discover slides, nets, climbing walls and more!
Adults can have a go at the outdoor gym equipment or simply appreciate the large grassy area to put the bikes down, catch your breath and watch the kids play.

3. Train to be a ninja and see what community gardening is about, all at the same time!
What do community gardening and ninja training have in common? Nothing usually, but in Albion they’re located within a three minute walk of each other!
At Selwyn Park in Albion, you’ll find the wonderful Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House AND a play area – informally named by locals the “Ninja Training Playground”.
This playground is one for the climbers and budding ‘ninja warriors’ in the family, with slides, swings, up and over walls, monkey bars, a rope ladder bridge and climbing frames.
BYO scooters because the playground’s paths are made for zipping around.
Afterwards, take a stroll to Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House, adjacent to the playground, and see what community gardening is all about. There’s a mix of edible and native garden beds with plants that are indigenous to the local area.
Come and visit to see what’s growing this season and pick some fresh produce to take home. Visitors should take note of opening days before arriving.

4. Run wild at the nature-inspired play space at The Lakes Reserve
Kids of all ages and abilities will love this vibrant playground.
The playground’s iconic fish-like structure, upgraded in 2019, forms an accessible and playful path leading to the majestic Kanopé Tree Tower.
You’ll find older children mastering the ropes and pulleys to reach the ‘tree top’ and taking a thrilling ride back down on the large spiral slide.
A climbing wall, Kayak slide, Fireman’s pole and two ground trampolines provide playful activities for younger children.

5. Learn, connect and socialise through storytime
Did you know Brimbank Libraries hold storytime sessions for kids throughout the year?
Ignite the imagination of your little ones through the magic of stories! Connect with like-minded parents of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers through these especially tailored moments. Free of charge – you just need to register to attend and come along on the day!
There are also sessions for parents and children (under five years) to practise their English with stories, songs and rhymes.
Look out for and special themed sessions throughout the year too.

6. Get the kids in to skating
Practice all sorts of tricks and turns at various skate parks in Brimbank.
Launched in 2019, the Delahey Skate Park located in the Delahey Recreation Reserve is a favourite among the locals. It’s a great space for local junior skateboard and scooter riders to have a go at learning something new.
If you’re looking for a good beginner park with small obstacles and lots of gutters, Sunshine Skate Park at Sunvale Community Park is a great option.
Get to the skate park early in the day for more space to practice.

7. Join a junior basketball or netball team through Keilor Basketball Netball Stadium
Team sports are more than exercise. Kids that play team sport get to share the game’s up’s and down’s, learn the club song, wear the uniform, make new friends and belong to something bigger.
A variety of junior Netball and Basketball programs are available at Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium (KBNS). Junior school holidays programs are also available.

8. The only standalone public Hot Shots tennis court in Victoria is calling!
Grab your tennis racquets and balls and head to the Hot Shots Public Tennis Court, where kids can practice to become the next Grand Slam champion in Brimbank.
The Lakes Reserve in Taylors Lakes is home to the only standalone public ‘Hot Shots’ tennis court in Victoria. The court is deliberately designed to be smaller than a regular tennis court, with lower nets – best suited to kids under ten years of age.
Use the Hot Shots Court at any time to prepare your tennis champion for the next Australian Open!

9. Toddler Tuesday – An arty wonderland for toddlers
Need something to do with the little ones at home? Toddler Tuesday has got you covered! Every Tuesday during school term, toddlers and their grown-ups can get crafty inside a very special cubby house with brilliant Toddler Tuesday artists.
To experience the fun, head to the St Albans Community Centre on Tuesday mornings where the atrium is transformed into an arty wonderland for kids, with artist friends helping them explore a world of craft.
Suitable for children ages 2-5 and their grown-ups and crafty tools are supplied.
The Toddler Tuesday sensation has a strong following on socials with crafty videos for families to access any time. Find them at Creative Brimbank Facebook Page or YouTube Channel.
