A Memorandum of Understanding signed with Victoria University

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Victoria University and Brimbank City Council on 11 May 2023 and will be in effect until 11 May 2026, with the option to extend with agreement from both parties.

With two of its campuses situated in the City of Brimbank, the Sunshine Campus and the St Albans Campus, Victoria University is an integral stakeholder in Melbourne’s west. The university offers a combination of both higher and vocational education and applied and translational research, thereby creating critical pathways to employment for the youth of Brimbank and Melbourne’s west.

“We are delighted to grow our partnership with Brimbank Council through this Memorandum of Understanding. As long-standing advocates for this region, Victoria University shares the pride in Brimbank as it is now – and in what it can become. Together, we are making a real and tangible impact for the benefit of the whole community as well as for our students, staff and researchers,” said Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker.

The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding affirms the commitment of both organisations to improving outcomes in relation to employment, education, community health and wellbeing, caring for country and climate action, and to building strategic partnerships to achieve impact in uplifting communities.

“Victoria University is a valued partner and important contributor to the Brimbank community, both in terms of educational opportunities and in providing important opportunities for research and collaboration for positive action”, says Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire

Victoria University and Brimbank Council have identified the following shared values to guide their collaborative efforts:

  • Social equity and inclusion
  • Multiculturalism as a strength
  • Educational participation
  • Caring for Country and Sustainability
  • A thriving uplifted Community

“The Memorandum of Understanding provides Victoria University and Brimbank City Council with the opportunity to raise aspirations and combine efforts in new and mutually beneficial ways to achieve impact in uplifting communities,” said Mayor Cr Lancashire.
