Ace new pavilion lights up Lionheart Reserve

Community sport in Taylors Lakes will shine brighter following a major upgrade of the tennis pavilion and flood lighting of the tennis courts at Lionheart Reserve.

The $4.79 million project, funded by Brimbank Council and the Victorian Government through its Community Sports Fund, provides modern, inclusive, and functional amenities for players, coaches, officials, and the community with features including:

  • A new multi-sport pavilion with a kitchen and kiosk, toilets, showers, and gender-neutral change rooms for players and umpires
  • Community room with indoor viewing areas
  • Fully covered outdoor decking area
  • Upgraded LED floodlighting across nine tennis courts for night training and participation in higher level competitions
  • New public booking system for tennis courts

Lionheart Reserve is home to the Taylors Lakes Tennis Club, Taylors Lakes Football Club and Taylors Lakes Cricket Club.

The new pavilion will have publicly accessible amenities with dedicated offices, storage areas and a first aid room.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Thuy Dang said the upgraded facility will be an asset for the Taylors Lakes community.

“We want people to enjoy and take part in community sport, no matter their age, gender, or ability.

“This new pavilion is a welcoming and inclusive space suitable for all players, officials and spectators and will hopefully encourage more people to get involved.

“The upgraded and energy efficient LED lighting will improve visibility, safety and comfort for players and allow the tennis club to take part in higher level night competitions for the first time, while also reducing light pollution and potential disturbance to surrounding areas.”

Tennis Victoria CEO Kim Kachel said the new and improved lighting across the tennis courts will  benefit players, spectators and the future of the game.

“Upgrading outdated lighting is a crucial step towards reducing emissions and securing a more sustainable future for community tennis,” Ms Kachel said.

“By transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting and solar power, we can lower costs for clubs, improve playing conditions and ensure tennis remains accessible for all Victorians.”
