Adopted 10 Year Asset Plan informed by community consultation

Brimbank has adopted a 10 Year Asset Plan which will guide Council in maintaining, renewing, expanding or upgrading our public assets.

“Responsible and sustainable management of our public assets is a priority for Brimbank, and our first ever 10 Year Asset Plan will guide our approach,” Brimbank Mayor Cr Jasmine Nguyen said.

Public assets can include things such as roads, parks, footpaths, buildings, drainage, trees and more.

Council had undertaken community engagement to inform the asset plan. Feedback, ideas and recommendations informed the plan’s development and priorities.

Feedback received during community consultation re-affirmed Council’s commitment to invest more in maintenance and renewal, and less on building new infrastructure.

“Thank you to everyone who submitted their feedback, ideas and suggestions during our consultation because it’s important that we take the community’s perspective into consideration,” Cr Nguyen said.

“We all know that Brimbank is a great place to live, work and play, and the proper management of our public assets means we can see this enjoyment continue well into the future.”

The 2022-2032 Asset Plan is a requirement under the Local Government Act 2020 to:

  • improve the transparency around asset value and performance
  • better inform the community on the type of assets under Council’s management and control, and the financial impost on managing these assets
  • contribute to Council’s long-term objectives and strategic intent
  • improve the efficiency and effectiveness of asset management practices through a more engaged community and informed council
  • better align decisions around service levels and standards, and financial sustainability.
