Become a qualified swim teacher with this free program

Brimbank is training up a new generation of swim teachers with a brand new, free employment pathway program.

The Swim Teacher Employment Pathway (STEP) Program trains participants to become qualified swim teachers. They can then work for Brimbank City Council.

The program is a response to a current shortage of swim teachers across Australia.

Currently there are 2000 vacant swim teacher roles across the nation, with waiting lists for classes.

The STEP program will meet this demand for teachers and classes at Sunshine Leisure Centre. The centre currently recruits five to six swim teachers each school term in order to cater for growing demand.

The centre encourages people from all walks of life to take part in the program, in order to create a familiar and inclusive experience for all Brimbank families.

The program is ideal for those who are currently unemployed, looking for their first job, or considering a career change.

Expressions of interest are now open for the first intake for the STEP program, which will take place in September. Future intakes will run every three months.
