Big wins in the Victorian 2025-26 Budget for Brimbank

The Victorian Budget 2025-26 delivers on major projects for Brimbank and the west.

“It’s great to see cost of living relief features strongly in the Victorian Budget 2025-26, along with a range of measures that will benefit families who might be doing it tough,” says Brimbank Mayor Cr Thuy Dang.

Brimbank Council is delighted at the major funding allocated in the Victorian Budget 2025-26 for the Sunshine Station Superhub and Calder Park Drive interchange.

Funding for health, community safety, homelessness and housing will also directly benefit Brimbank, including major investment in the health system for hospitals and mental health services.

Cost of living relief measures are particularly welcome for families in Brimbank struggling to make ends meet, such as free travel for under 18s and an increase to the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund.

Funding for projects in Brimbank include:

  • $4.14b in partnership with the Commonwealth Government, to deliver the new Sunshine Station Superhub. This investment will improve V/Line services and allow for more metropolitan trains at this busy network interchange. This is a crucial first step towards a rail line to Melbourne Airport and a future electrified Melton Line.
  • $50m for the Calder Park Drive interchange, in addition to the $250m committed by the Federal Government.
  • $12.1m for a new bus route between Cairnlea and Deer Park.
  • $8.9m to help locals walk, ride and move around more safely by upgrading shared user paths in Taylors Lakes, Sydenham and Hillside.
  • $1.25m to support the completion of the Vietnamese Museum Australia, with the funding to be provided entirely in the 2025-2026 financial year.
  • $512,000 to upgrade the toilets at Mackellar Primary School in Delahey.
  • $70,000 to fund a new electronic scoreboard for the Western Suburbs Soccer Club.
  • Three new pedestrian road safety signs along Taylors Road in Keilor Downs. This is part of the $13.7m Metropolitan Roads Upgrades Program
  • St Albans North Primary School to share in $10m allocated for future school upgrades, expected to be completed in Q2 of 2026-2027.

While the Sunshine Station Masterplan and Albion Station upgrade are mentioned in the budget, Council looks forward to these crucial projects being costed and scheduled. These projects will maximise benefits from the other major investments in infrastructure and are urgently needed to support the economic growth, housing needs and development of Melbourne’s western region.

“Council is delighted at the funding allocations for Sunshine Station Superhub and the Calder Park Drive interchange and we remain determined to work with Government to ensure that detailed timelines for delivery of the Sunshine Station Masterplan and Albion Station are agreed,” says Mayor Cr Dang.
