Brimbank Council set for countback to fill extraordinary vacancy

Trung Luu, who was elected to Council in 2020 to represent Harvester Ward, has been elected to State Parliament.

His election to the Upper House means that Mr Luu is no longer eligible to be a Brimbank City Councillor.

A countback will now be undertaken by the Victorian Electoral Commission for a new Councillor to be sworn in to represent Harvester Ward to fill the extraordinary vacancy.

This countback will be held at 10am on 23 January 2023, based on voting undertaken at the 2020 Local Government election for Brimbank.

Mr Luu previously represented Council on the Sunshine Town Centre Partnership Group and Brimbank Arts Advisory Committee. He was also the Connecting Brimbank portfolio holder.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Bruce Lancashire said:

“My fellow Brimbank Councillors and I congratulate Trung on his election to State Parliament.

“On behalf of Council –and the community – I thank Trung for his service to Brimbank since his election in 2020.

“We look forward to working with Mr Luu in his capacity as a Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, and to welcoming and working with the candidate who is successful in filling the vacancy following the countback.”
