Brimbank wins award for zero-emissions aquatic centre

Brimbank Council has won an award at the 2023 Climate Awards held by Cities Power Partnership recently.

Brimbank received the energy efficiency achievement award for its Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre, Australia’s first zero-emissions aquatic centre.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Bruce Lancashire said Council was thrilled with this latest accolade for the facility.

“We are very proud of the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre’s world-leading sustainability features, and thrilled to win this award.

“This all-electric aquatic facility powered by renewable energy, demonstrates our commitment to reaching net zero for Council operations by 2030.”

Cities Power Partnership is Australia’s largest network of local governments committed to climate action, and the 2023 Climate Awards celebrate the most outstanding council-led initiatives from around Australia.

The aquatic facility in Keilor Downs celebrated its first birthday this month and has attracted great crowds since opening its doors.

But it is its innovative sustainability features that is winning even more rave reviews.

The aquatic centre’s operation uses about 76 per cent less energy compared to conventional gas-powered aquatic centres. Its zero-emissions design has also earned it a Green Star Design Review rating and is on track to receive a 6 Star Green Star – Design and As Built rating. Its highest rating.
