With more than 1600 signatures on our petition, and as we rapidly approach November’s Victorian Election, Brimbank City Council has renewed its call for political parties to take responsibility and Fix Taylors Road.
Every day, thousands living in the west face heavy congestion, long delays and increasing safety risks on Taylors Road.
While parts of Taylors Road have been upgraded to accommodate increased traffic, these works only highlight the urgent need to duplicate the stretch between Kings Road and Gilson College in Delahey.
While the Victorian Government has now committed some funding for upgrade planning and development in the 2026/27 State Budget and the Federal Government to intersection upgrades, these are well short of the required full duplication.
Since Council launched the Fix Taylors Road campaign site earlier this year, more than 100 community stories have been shared detailing the challenges our community face travelling on Taylors Road.
Taylors Road runs through Keilor Downs, St Albans, Delahey and Kings Park, connecting growing communities and linking with the Calder and Western freeways. Built to carry 700–1200 vehicles per hour during peaks, it now carries 1850–2100 vehicles per hour – exceeding the capacity of an Urban Arterial Road (up to 1800 vehicles per hour).
Quotes attributable to Brimbank Mayor Cr Virginia Tachos said our community deserves a safer, more reliable Taylors Road.
“Fixing this congested road is one of Council’s highest priorities,” Cr Tachos said.
“Since launching our call on government earlier this year, we’ve heard countless stories from people who’ve had difficult and, in some cases, frightening experiences on this road.
“People have told us they avoid travelling on Taylors Road because of the gridlock. Others leave home much earlier than they need to, simply to make sure they don’t miss important appointments.
“We’ve heard from people who were stuck in an ambulance on Taylors Road during peak hour and emergency service members who cut through side streets to get around the congestion, even if it means taking a longer route.
“Taylors Road is one of the west’s most congested road, but it’s also one of our most important. It’s no long fit for purpose and it needs a full duplication.
