Residents are invited to have their say on plans to transform Copernicus Way Reserve, in Keilor Downs.
The new concept celebrates the natural landscape and aims to create a special nature-based place for learning, play and community connection.
The revised concept plan
We’re seeking community feedback on a range of elements in the revised concept design, including:
- nature play areas
- play equipment such as swings, climbing, balancing, rocking, spinning and imaginative play for different ages
- picnic spaces for families and groups
- outdoor learning and bush kinder spaces
- shade trees and landscaping to improve comfort and the environment.
The revised design follows environmental and technical investigations undertaken since the concept was first shared in 2023.
This new design protects significant native vegetation, works with the natural landscape and celebrates the reserve’s environmental character.
Grassy Meadows project
As part of the project, some areas of the reserve are temporarily being left unmown while native grasses and wildflowers grow through spring and summer. The trial will help Council better understand the site’s natural meadow environment.
The grassy meadows are also expected to provide habitat for wildlife while creating opportunities for the community to experience and connect with nature.
Visit us and become a Bug Detective
Join us at Copernicus Way Reserve for a family-friendly special school holiday session. Kids can explore the grasslands, discover bugs and pollinators and provide feedback about the playground.
Adults can view the proposed design for the playground upgrade, ask questions and share their views with Council.
The session will be held from 10am to 11.30am on Wednesday, 23 September, at Copernicus Way Reserve, Keilor Downs.
