Construction is now underway on the new Dempster Park Children’s and Community Centre, marking a major milestone in delivering a modern, integrated children’s and community hub for Sunshine North.
The Member for St Albans, The Hon. Natalie Suleyman MP, joined Brimbank Councillor Daniel Kruk at a ceremonial sod turning today to mark the official start of construction on the Dempster Park Children’s and Community Centre.
Once complete, the purpose-built centre will bring together kindergarten, maternal and child health, family support and community services under one roof.
Designed to achieve 5 Star Green Star Buildings certification, the building will incorporate environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient features.
Together with the nearby sporting facilities, the new centre will help create the Dempster Park precinct as a destination for recreation, learning and community connection.
The approximately $9 million project, jointly funded by Brimbank City Council and the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms, will provide a modern, welcoming and connected space featuring:
- Two kindergarten rooms providing 66 kindergarten places
- Two Maternal and Child Health consulting rooms
- Dedicated family space
- Community hall
- Staff workspaces and amenities
- Separate outdoor play areas for kindergarten and long daycare service, Maternal and Child Health and family programs, and community hall users
The new centre, located at 72A Phoenix Street, Sunshine North, is expected to open in late 2027.
