Brimbank residents who need to safely dispose of hazardous household chemicals from their sheds, cupboards, and under kitchen sinks can drop them off at the upcoming Brimbank Detox your Home event on Saturday 14 June, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sustainability Victoria’s Detox your Home events are a free and convenient disposal service for Brimbank residents, helping to keep local families, waterways, animals and the environment safe.
Common products such as weedkiller, pesticides, bleach, brake fluid and rat poison are all harmful to the environment and should not be placed in kerbside bins or poured down sinks.

Common chemicals collected at Detox your Home events include:
- Cleaning – Acids and alkalis, including bleach, rust remover, and hydrochloric acid, oven cleaner
- Garden – Fertiliser, fuel (old lawn mower/power tools fuel), weed killers/herbicides, insect sprays and pesticides, pool chemicals
- Garage – Brake fluid, coolant, fuels including petrol, diesel and kerosene, machine oil and lubricant
New items added
In addition to household chemicals, you can now also drop off:
- Soft Plastics (clean and dry): Includes bubble wrap, grocery and reusable shopping bags, plastic film food packaging, frozen food bags, cereal bags, zip-lock bags, bread bags, and AusPost satchels.
- Polystyrene: Includes white appliance packaging (e.g. from TVs, fridges), clean fruit and veg boxes (with no stickers or residue), and bean bag beans. Must be free from food, labels, concrete, and tape.
- End-of-Life Textiles: These are items that are too damaged, stained, or worn-out to be donated. It includes items like ripped clothing, threadbare linen, single socks, or broken shoes. All textiles must be dry and free of heavy contamination.
Important: Only household quantities will be accepted. No commercial loads, please.

Detox your Home no longer collects fire extinguishers, cosmetics, empty aerosols and oils, including cooking oil.
Detox your Home events are staffed by expert chemists who identify and sort the chemicals for safe transport back to a licensed facility in Melbourne where they are processed for reuse or safe disposal.
