More than 100 locals gathered alongside the problem bottleneck on Taylors Road in Delahey on Saturday morning, to launch a community call-to-action to make it clear to all major parties, ahead of the State election that they must commit to taking responsibility and fixing one of the west’s most congested and dangerous roads.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Virginia Tachos said the community had reached breaking point.
“Today, we stand together for one simple reason: To call on the State Government to Fix Taylors Road,” Mayor Tachos said.

“Every day, thousands of people in Melbourne’s west sit in traffic on Taylors Road – late for work, late for school, with their safety increasingly put at risk.
“This section of Taylors Road is failing our community.”
The rally marked the official launch of the Fix Taylors Road campaign, calling on the State Government to:
– Declare the road a state arterial,
– Duplicate it, and
– Deliver the upgrade without delay.
Mayor Tachos said the road was never designed to handle current traffic volumes.
“Taylors Road was built for about 1,200 vehicles an hour. Today, it’s carrying in excess of than 2,000.”
“This is not a local road anymore – this is a key arterial linking the Calder and Western Freeways. The State Government must step up and fix it,” said Mayor Cr Tachos.
The community-driven campaign is urging residents to share their stories and sign the petition at www.fixtaylorsroad.com.au ahead of the State election.
