Getting the ‘Jab Done’ in Brimbank

Brimbank Council is working in partnership with the Victorian Government, public health organisations and local community groups to ensure everybody who wants to access the COVID-19 vaccine can.

As coronavirus cases grow, we’re supporting community members and working to improve access to the vaccine in line with the government reopening plans.

Opportunities to access vaccinations are increasing in Brimbank. Appointments are now available at state vaccination centres and pop-ups, as well as a growing number of GPs and pharmacies.

While still below the state average, Brimbank vaccination rates are rising. At 27 September, 71.6 per cent of residents had received a first dose and 38.4 per cent were fully vaccinated.

This is up from 51.5 percent first dose and 29.2 percent second dose on 6 September. Victoria has just ticked over 80 percent first dose.

Under the Victorian Government’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan, reaching targets of 70 per cent and 80 per cent double dose vaccination means businesses can reopen and community can more easily see family and friends.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said: “Under the Victorian Government’s safe reopening plans, vaccination is the way for all of us to get back to doing the things we love.

“Many industries, small businesses, and families have suffered immensely during this pandemic. The sooner we reach our targets, the sooner we can begin the process of re-opening and rebuilding our community and economy.”

In supporting the Brimbank community, Council has established a Pandemic Operations Response Team to oversee local activities, including:

  • sourcing Council-owned locations and supporting pop-up vaccination sites
  • providing emergency food and material aid to families in mandatory isolation
  • working with community leaders and organisations to encourage take up of vaccination.

If you have questions about vaccinations, the best person to talk to is your doctor/GP.
