Did you know that Brimbank is home to more than 500 indigenous plants and 196 different kinds of native animals?
Sadly, mounting environmental pressures like urban growth and climate change threaten the sustainability of many of these plants and animals.
Brimbank’s draft Biodiversity Strategy 2025-2035 has been developed to help protect and restore our municipality’s rich biodiversity for generations to come. We are now looking to the Brimbank community to share your thoughts on this draft strategy.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Thuy Dang said the draft strategy outlines our key areas of focus to enable Brimbank’s native plants and animals to thrive.
“Council’s vision for Brimbank is that it is beautiful, thriving, healthy, and connected. Protecting our plants, animals, and grasslands is essential to achieving this,” said Mayor Dang.
“I encourage our community to provide their feedback. It’s crucial we get this right.”
The draft strategy has five goals to guide Council’s investment, policy and actions:
- Safeguard Brimbank’s most ecologically valuable places and species.
- Support the recovery of degraded landscapes through active management.
- Create a more connected ecological network.
- Empower and engage the community to care for the environment and act.
- Ground decisions in knowledge, collaboration, and culture.
The community and other interested parties can provide feedback on the draft strategy before 11 August 2025.
The consultation will include workshops for key stakeholders, such as the Wurundjeri, Woi Wurrung, Bunurong, First Nations peoples, as well as local environment groups, and government organisations, Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water.
