Have your say on building a safer, more inclusive community together

Community members are invited to share their feedback on the Draft Statement of Commitment for a Safe and Inclusive Brimbank.

The Statement outlines how Council approaches community safety by focusing on the social, health and environmental factors that help prevent harm before it happens.

While Victoria Police and justice agencies are responsible for law enforcement, Council’s role is to help create the conditions for a safe, healthy and connected community.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Virginia Tachos said feeling safe is important for everyone.

“The Statement of Commitment sets out our vision for a safe and welcoming community, where everyone belongs and can live free from harm.

“Community safety is a shared responsibility across all levels of government, police, service providers, business and the community.

“Council plays an important leadership role that relies on strong partnerships and collaboration.

“By working together, we can strengthen our community through inclusion, preventing gender-based violence and making sure our council public spaces are safe and enjoyable for everyone,” Cr Tachos said.

The draft Statement includes a vision, key principles, Council’s role and commitments, with three strategic priorities:

  • Stronger communities – building a community where people feel safe, welcome and included, through social inclusion.
  • Safer streets and public spaces – designing and maintaining Council owned and managed public places to promote safety and support social connection.
  • Preventing gender-based violence – preventing family violence, improving health outcomes and ensuring gender equity in our facilities and programs.

This work aligns with the health and wellbeing priorities in the We Are Brimbank: Integrated Community Vision 2050, Council Plan and Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2029.

Council will deliver the Statement of Commitment through actions that address the strategic priorities identified in the We are Brimbank Annual Action Plan.

Council will work with partners to track progress on key outcomes, and will track progress through data, surveys and feedback. The Statement will be reviewed every four years.
