Brimbank Council is calling on local residents and stakeholders to share their thoughts and feedback on the draft Brimbank Asset Plan for 2025-2035.
The draft plan will help guide Council on how to sustainably manage, renew, build or upgrade important public assets including parks and playgrounds, footpaths and bike paths, roads and bridges, stormwater drains, community centres, sports pavilions, libraries and more.
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Thuy Dang said the draft Brimbank Asset Plan is designed to ensure Council assets are sustainably managed and remain well-maintained, secure, and visually appealing over the next decade and beyond.
“This is part of Council’s effort to create and maintain better assets for our municipality,” said Mayor Dang.
Council manages over $2.8 billion of public assets that are already in service.
The draft plan outlines Council’s commitment to ensure that the community has access to spaces that are safe, clean, and well-maintained, both now and for future generations to enjoy.
Council has engaged with a wide range of people throughout Brimbank to help shape the draft 10-Year Asset Plan, including families, seniors, people living with a disability, carers, children, young people, businesses and local service providers.
Alongside this broad consultation, we also carried out a focused deliberative engagement process with the Brimbank Community Voice Panel, specifically concentrating on the maintenance and renewal of community assets.
Thirty-nine panel members reflected on Brimbank’s demographics, ensuring broad representation across gender, culture, geographic areas and lived experiences.
Key takeaways included:
- Strong support for a mix of owned and leased buildings, as long as services remain high-quality.
- A desire for well-maintained, safe, clean, and accessible parks, roads and buildings.
- A preference for upgrading existing assets before building new ones, especially to save costs.
- A focus on creating green, flexible spaces that promote health and wellbeing.
- Widespread support for making spaces more inclusive and connected to nature.
We are now seeking further community feedback before finalising the plan.
“We’d love to hear your thoughts on what matters most when you think about community places and spaces,” said Mayor Dang.
