Council’s Brimbank Learning Futures team hosted thirteen events over 6 days as part of National Careers Week to provide employment opportunities, inspiration, career insights and growth opportunities to our local community.
Lily, who attended several of the sessions said:
“Attending the events opened my eyes up to what happens behind the scenes at Council and what roles are available across teams. I’m thinking about a career change, so I felt really inspired and went on to apply for a job after the events.”
Thanks to all of our event partners
Careers Week is a collaborative effort, and Council would like to thank all the organisations and local businesses that participated in National Career Week events and activities, including Victoria University’s Skills and Jobs Centre, Hays Recruitment, Opendoor services, Multicultural Consulting Service, Youth Projects Sunshine, She Force Recruitment, Beyond Employment, Interact Australia, West Justice, WYN Hub and Empowered to Speak.
The wrap-up for 2025 National Careers Week
The annual Brimbank Local Jobs Showcase was hugely successful and attended by over 250 community members and presented by 14 stallholders from local organisations. So far there have been 6 local community members who have gained work from the event, an excellent outcome!
We invited community to join us in the workplace and explore careers at Brimbank Council through a series of Day-In-The-Life events, which were held at the Ops Centre, Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre, Brimbank Libraries and at sites cared for by our Parks and Public Realm team. Community members were given an insight into the variety of jobs available and the breadth of work undertaken at Council.
Year 11 and 12 students from Sunshine College conducted ‘reverse interviews’, where the students asked the questions and heard from Council workers about their day-to-day jobs, career journeys, and pathways to their current jobs.
Side Hustles: Entrepreneurs of Brimbank was a new event designed to inspired those in the community looking to start their own business or take their business to the next level. The event was very entertaining as well as informative as speakers shared the hobbies and interests that are also making them money.
Other offerings included a safe food handling course, AI job searching workshop, a youth focused employability skills workshop, interview skills and tips session, workplace rights and volunteering at Brimbank information session.
Careers Week resulted in multiple employment outcomes, skill development, and increased knowledge of council and local job opportunities for community. Thanks for coming and we will be back next year for 2026 National Careers Week in Brimbank.
