Mayor driving Brimbank closer to 100% renewable

Brimbank’s new Mayor, Cr Bruce Lancashire has picked a fully electric car as his mayoral vehicle – a Hyundai IONIQ electric car. It is Council’s first fully electric mayoral vehicle.

Brimbank Council has committed to become 100% carbon neutral in its operations by 2030 in its Climate Emergency Plan. This includes a fully electric vehicle fleet by this time.

Mayor Lancashire said every action toward this goal – big and small – was important.

“I’m pleased to be driving an electric vehicle because the way we travel around the planet needs to change if we are going to save it, Cr Lancashire said.

“Electric vehicles can be run clean, green and very cheap compared with conventional petrol cars that run on fossil fuels.

“And it’s not just the vehicles we drive, but walking, cycling, catching public transport where we can reduce air pollution, improves health, and helps transition our community toward a zero emissions future.”

Brimbank 100% Renewable by 2040

Ever wondered where you’ll find the most electric vehicles in Victoria? According to recent media reports, the postcode 3020 – covering Sunshine, Albion, Sunshine North and Sunshine West – has the most electric vehicles and plug in hybrid electric vehicles in Victoria.
