Podolepis Parade

Native Wildflowers for Good Grassland Neighbours in Cairnlea

The Friends of Iramoo are creating a Podolepis Parade on the streets surrounding each of their three remnant native grasslands, and they want the neighbouring residents in Cairnlea to be part of it.

Each house facing the reserves will be given a beautiful Basalt Podolepis plant – a native grassland wildflower that provides nectar for butterflies and small birds.

The intention is for residents to plant their Podolepis on their nature strip or front garden, or keep it as a pot plant near their doorstep.

By increasing the number of Podolepis plants around the reserves, residents will be helping to increase the food resources available for small grassland animals.  The Podolepis Parade will serve as a stepping stone for butterflies and other pollinators travelling between the Cairnlea grasslands.

Podolepis Parade packs will be delivered to residents on the weekend of 23/24 September.  The pack will include:

* A 14cm potted Basalt Podolepis plant – Podolepis linearifolia

* A Grassland information pack

* A Good Grassland Neighbour footpath decal

* A voucher for a grassland starter kit (8 native grassland plants) from Iramoo Native Plant Nursery

Get your shovels ready for some planting fun when your Podolepis plant arrives.  The Friends of Iramoo will be able to provide some planting assistance for people who need help.

This project is being delivered by the Cairnlea Conservation Reserves Committee of Management and is supported by Brimbank City Council.
