New LED streetlights brighten Brimbank’s roads and future

Work has begun upgrading more than 4000 Brimbank streetlights with new, energy efficient LED technology.

Powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, the upgraded lights will deliver a $6 million saving on net energy, maintenance and repair costs over 20 years.

The project will also provide better quality lighting on Brimbank’s busy roads.

“This is a win-win project for the environment and Council’s bottom line,” said Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic.

This project is a step forward in Council’s Climate Emergency Plan and Revised Greenhouse Reduction Strategy 2013-2023.

The Plan commits Council to achieving zero net emissions by 2030.

“We know from consulting with our community that this is what they want from us, and it is the right thing to do now and for future generations,” said Cr Rasic.

The $3.4 million project will be completed by late 2022.
