Brimbank City Council has adopted a revised Procurement Policy to strengthen the way Council purchases goods, services and works, while delivering broader benefits for the local community.
The revised policy sets a clear framework for procurement that promotes open and fair competition, value for money, transparency, and accountability. It also reflects current best practice across Victorian local governments.
Supporting local and sustainable outcomes
A key focus of the new policy is ensuring Council considers the economic, environmental, social and ethical impacts of its purchasing decisions, as well as providing value for money.
For all quotation and tender processes, at least 10 per cent of the assessment will be based on local, social and environmental benefits.
This will help Council support local businesses, jobs and training, social inclusion and better environmental outcomes, while continuing to achieve value for money.
Meeting legislative requirements
Council is required under the Local Government Act 2020 to prepare, adopt and comply with a procurement policy.
The revised policy is based on the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) best practice template and was developed in consultation with key stakeholders and procurement experts from Victorian councils.
