Popular community grants allocated with young people’s ideas in the mix

Residents will benefit from an injection of more than $600,000 allocated to not-for-profit community groups and organisations under the Brimbank Community Grants Program 2022-2023.

The grants will help to deliver local projects, events and programs that improve health and wellbeing, sustainable living and community connections.

“Our annual Community Grants Program provides essential funding for eligible local, not-for-profit groups and organisations to provide a host of dynamic events and programs across the municipality,” Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire said.

“We’re pleased to fund projects and activities that deliver innovative local solutions that will strengthen community resilience and respond to ongoing and emerging challenges.

“It was also wonderful to see young people share their ideas with us and partner with community organisations for funding to deliver projects that benefit Brimbank.”

Of the 177 grant applications received, 41 applications were successful for funding, as follows:

  • 13 Community Strengthening Grants – up to $10,000
  • 8 Mental Health and Wellbeing Grants – up to $10,000
  • 6 Young People’s Idea Grants – up to $10,000
  • 4 Climate Emergency Grants – up to $10,000
  • 24 Community Festival and Event Grants – up to $10,000
  • 4 Major Festival and Event Grants – up to $25,000
  • 77 Senior Operational Grants – up to $1,000.

This round of grants included two new categories – Young People’s Ideas and Climate Emergency grants.

In the Young People’s Ideas category, funding was allocated for a young people’s leadership day, a music and dance variety show, and projects to support the transition to high school, and to break down stereotypes.

In the Climate Emergency category, funding was allocated for projects to implement greenhouse emissions reduction and climate adaptation such as maintaining native grasslands, waste reduction and recycling, and building climate-adaptive school grounds.
