Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is Victoria’s science-based environmental regulator responsible for protecting communities and our environment from the impacts of pollution and waste.
Over the coming weeks, EPA authorised officers will be inspecting businesses across Victoria. This is to ensure they are complying with the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the general environmental duty. Under the Act, responsibility for preventing harm to waterways rests with anyone in management or control of an activity that may give rise to risks of harm.
There are requirements to understand your environmental impact. As a business that poses potential risks to waterways, you must take reasonable steps to reduce:
- the risk of spills
- the risk of leaks and
- other reportable offences in your operation.
You can find more information about your duties on EPA’s website or by calling 1300 372 842.
