Illegal rubbish dumping continues to frustrate our community. It is costly to clean up, damages our local environment and our community’s enjoyment of their open spaces and parks.
We’re taking action to address this in several ways.
Council spends about $1 million annually cleaning up dumped rubbish. We have surveillance cameras set up at rubbish-dumping hotspots, and those caught dumping rubbish will be fined. On the spot fines cost hundreds of dollars. If taken to court, individuals can be fined thousands of dollars and businesses more.
How you can help
If you see rubbish being dumped or come across dumped rubbish, you can:
- Report rubbish dumping using vic.gov.au/report-it and we’ll follow up the information provided
- Contact the Environment Protection Authority if the rubbish dumping is not on Council land.
Responsible ways to get rid of items you no longer want include:
- Use Council’s At Call Hard Waste collection service to dispose of bulky hard waste and green waste. Brimbank residents receive one ‘no charge’ collection each financial year. Additional bookings are available at a cost.
- Take items to our Resource Recovery Centre at Stadium Drive, Keilor. This includes items like clean cardboard, paint tins, all types of batteries, and electronic waste items.
