Sunshine Lunar New Year Festival

The Sunshine Lunar New Year Festival is a free multicultural community event taking place in the busy Sunshine shopping precinct along Hampshire Road, Sunshine on Sunday 6th February 2022, 12pm to 9pm.

Celebrating the lunar calendar, a time of renewal and for friends and family to come together to celebrate the start of a new year. The Sunshine Lunar New Year Festival or Tét Festival will be the first ever staged in Sunshine, that will bring our culturally diverse community together in a safe and fun environment.

A huge day of free family fun, live entertainment, children’s rides, street performers, music, dancing, street food, face-painting, magical Lion and Dragon dancing, red-pockets and firecrackers ending with spectacular fireworks.

Hampshire Road, between Devonshire and Foundry Roads will be closed to traffic and will come alive with multicultural entertainment for children and families. A large performance stage with seating area will burst with exciting musical acts and dance groups. The festival will feature the fastest Pho and Bánh mì eating competitions and the fabulous and funny Diana Nguyen will MC and give away red-pockets with $ and business vouchers across the day’s event. A fabulous array of street food stalls of many nations, super fun small and large children’s rides, pony rides, face-painting, kids tattoo’s, circus activities, showbags, street-performers and cultural kid’s activities will take over Hampshire Road. Sunshine’s favourite local sporting groups will also attend and present fun kid’s activities.

Later in the day a vibrant and energetic Lion and Dragon dance complete with long string fireworks will take place at the stage ending with a traditional Lunar New Year display of Fireworks at 8.30pm.

Sunshine and the greater Melbourne have been longing for more events and like our previous festivals held, we plan on delivering a fun filled day jam packed with TV celebrities, live acts including Tanya George from the Voice and much more. Join us for a FREE full day family friendly outdoor event and enjoy the diverse range of delicious food, family activities and give aways. Let’s welcome the year of Tiger. In Vietnamese tradition, the Tiger represents respect, courage and being energetic – principles that we could all use in light of the past few years”.

The Sunshine Lantern Parade is a free cultural community event staged and presented by the Sunshine Business Association, supported by Brimbank City Council, Victorian Multicultural Commission, Victorian State Government and many Sunshine businesses.
