Turn your olives into oil

There’s still time for Brimbank residents to turn their olive harvests into extra virgin olive oil through the much-loved Olives to Oil Westside event series.

Residents of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Melton can bring their freshly harvested olives to drop-off days in May, and then pick up some delicious olive oil at a vibrant olive-themed festival in July.

Drop off your olives

Sunday 24 May, 11am–2pm
Newport Community Hub, 13/15 Mason St, Newport

Sunday 31 May, 11am–2pm
McNish ‘Dinosaur Park’ Reserve, Court St, Yarraville

Registrations are essential: ceres.org.au/olives-to-oil

Pick up your oil at the Olives to Oil Festival Westside

Saturday 18 July, 11am–3pm
Burnside Community Centre, 23 Lexington Drive, Burnside

Come along to our festival day on Saturday 18 July for gardening workshops, tastings and sales. There will be an olive oil pressing demonstration, fruit tree pruning and grafting workshops, kids activities, food stalls, music, environmental group stalls and more.

If you dropped off your olives at one of our events in May (in Sunshine, Newport or Yarraville), then come along to pick up your delicious olive oil and stay for the festivities.

Entry to the festival is free. Find out more and register here.

Here’s what one participant from the 2025 Olives to Oil event had to say:

“The event is FABULOUS! There is always such a terrible mess from the olive trees in my neighbourhood. I was overjoyed to reduce this mess, reduce waste and save money. The oil is delicious, and I use it every day. I met many neighbours that I had not previously known and now feel much more connected to my neighbourhood than I did before.”

Olives to Oil Westside is presented by CERES in partnership with My Smart Garden and Hobsons Bay, Brimbank, Melton and Maribyrnong City Councils.
