Winners of the BIG Summer Read 2023.

This year the BIG Summer Read was exactly that: BIG. We had almost 800 entries, both hardcopy and online through Beanstack.

In total 7,830 books were read by children participating in the program this year which is awesome and a big increase on the 200 participants from last year.

The overall winner was Yoel who is 11 years old and goes to the St Albans Library. Yoel was extremely excited to have won the ultimate prize of a Nintendo Switch.

Here are pictures of the winners from each of Brimbank’s Libraries. Big congratulations to you all:

  • Deer Park Library: Merina (aged 6)
  • Sydenham Library: Kashvi
  • Sunshine Library: Violet (aged 6)
  • St Albans Library: Maryam (aged 10)
  • Keilor Library: Michael (aged 9)

Over the summer school holidays, children can experience something called the ‘summer slide’, which refers to the loss of literacy skills when children do not read. The BIG Summer Read aims to slow the slide by encouraging children and their families to join a fun and dynamic state wide reading campaign.

The BIG Summer Read is organised by Public Libraries Victoria.
