Iraqi Women make a splash at the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre for community wellbeing

The Community Active Living Program is part of the Brimbank Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services (Brimbank Local), which aims to make it easier for people to access support closer to home, their families, carers and support networks.

This program has been created to break down barriers by offering support and guidance to women attending and participating in group fitness classes.

The project lead, a cohealth bicultural worker from Iraq, has collaborated with cohealth’s Brimbank Local services staff to design the program based on the strengths, needs, and interests of women in the community.

Mums can take advantage of the facilities, programs, and services at the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre while their children are at the crèche having fun.

The focus of this program is on increasing physical activity, building confidence, wellbeing, and social connections.

Participants are also provided with links to cohealth and other services located at the Centre. English classes with CommUnity Plus, as well as other outreach programs with Good Shepherd and Distinctive Option, are among the additional support opportunities available.

This program is an excellent opportunity for Iraqi women to engage in a supportive community while improving their physical and mental wellbeing.
