The 2024 We Are Brimbank Awards, which include Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year, recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution of our local community leaders, residents, businesses and community groups across our municipality.

This year, most of the We Are Brimbank Awards categories have been opened up to individuals as well as groups who have positively impacted our community and inspired others through their exceptional dedication and service. Mayor of Brimbank Cr Ranka Rasic said:

“The 2024 We Are Brimbank Awards are back, and we’ve expanded the eligibility for most categories by accepting nominations for individuals, which means there are more opportunities to recognise great people doing great things in Brimbank.

“These awards are a fantastic way to recognise these groups and organisations who are making a positive difference to Brimbank.

“Your nominations will help us recognise these wonderful contributions, so please put in your nominations by Sunday 7 April.”

There are two new award categories: Community Group of the Year and Sports and Wellbeing Award.

If you know of a project, organisation, community group or community leader that deserves to be recognised, don’t hesitate – nominate them now by completing the online form on Council’s website – brimbank.vic.gov.au/waba

Award categories for individuals

  • Citizen of the Year

Nominate someone in our community whose exceptional dedication, selflessness and leadership have made a profound impact in Brimbank. We’re searching for individuals who embody the spirit of community, those who have tirelessly worked to improve the lives of others, uplift our neighbourhoods and foster a sense of unity and belonging – whether they’ve led initiatives, volunteered their time or been a source of inspiration to others.

To be eligible, the person must be a resident of Brimbank and an Australian citizen aged over 25 years as at May 2024.

  • Young Citizen of the Year

Nominate a remarkable young citizen who inspires all with their passion and commitment to creating a brighter future for Brimbank. Whether they’ve initiated community projects, volunteer their time for worthy causes or demonstrate remarkable acts of kindness, we want to honour their achievements.

To be eligible, the person must be a resident of Brimbank and an Australian ctizen aged between 16 and 25 years as at May 2024.

Award categories for individuals, groups and businesses

  • Arts, Culture or Tourism

Nominate an individual, business, not-for-profit or an incorporated organisation who has demonstrated passion and dedication to enhancing the vibrant arts scene, preserved our cultural heritage or played a pivotal role in showcasing Brimbank as a destination of choice.

From talented artists and dedicated cultural ambassadors to innovative tourism initiatives, we’re seeking nominations for those who have made a significant impact in enriching our cultural landscape. Let’s celebrate those who bring colour and vibrancy to our community.

  • Community Engagement

Nominate those who have made exceptional contributions to building a united and inclusive community. This award recognises those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to fostering connections, promoting inclusivity, and empowering others to participate in community life. Whether through organising events, facilitating dialogue or implementing initiatives that bring people together, we’re looking for shining examples of community engagement.

Now is the time to honor those who dedicate themselves to building stronger, more connected neighbourhoods in Brimbank. Let’s celebrate their outstanding efforts in making our community a better place for all!

  • Environment or Sustainability

Nominate individuals, schools, community groups and/or businesses who are leading the charge in environmental sustainability initiatives. This award recognises the outstanding efforts of those who are dedicated to protecting our planet, conserving natural resources and promoting sustainable practices in our community. Whether they’re leading recycling initiatives, advocating for renewable energy or educating and working to preserve local ecosystems.

  • Sports and Wellbeing (NEW)

Nominate a sports club, community group, individual, not-for-profit or incorporated organisation who are dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and wellbeing through sports and recreational activities.

This award celebrates those who have made significant contributions to enhancing physical activity, mental health and overall wellbeing in our community. Whether they’re championing for youth sports, organising fitness programs or advocating for inclusive recreational opportunities, we want to recognise their positive impact.

  • Community Group of the Year (NEW)

Nominate a remarkable community group that has demonstrated outstanding dedication and service, leaving a positive impact on the lives of residents in Brimbank. Whether they’ve organised events, provided essential services or championed initiatives that have brought community together. This is your chance to nominate and shine a spotlight on those who have worked tirelessly and made valuable contributions to the social fabric of Brimbank.
