Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre first year of operations

The first year operations report for the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre was presented and accepted by Council at the December meeting.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said:

“We are so proud of the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre. Not only have community embraced the facility and are visiting in big numbers, but we’ve seen recognition sector wide about the sustainability in design and technology.”

In addition to recording a favourable result and exceeding all expectations for the first 12 months of operation, the facility has garnered significant attention nationally, winning several awards.

Highlights include:

  • 1.3 million visitors in the first 12 months.
  • 10,500 members.
  • Over 3,750 enrolled in swim school.
  • Hosting a number of community event celebrations, including International Women’s Day, International Day of People with Disability, Defib initiative with free CPR training, BAWC’s First Birthday celebrations, district school swimming competitions, and the Sons and Daughters of the West program.
  • Employs over 400 staff. 70% local Brimbank people, 65% young people, jobs for local indigenous people.

Together with our collocated partners, Distinctive Options, commUnity+ and Good Shepherd, we have delivered numerous programs to at risk cohorts including carers, single mums, older adults and young people, people at risk or experiencing homelessness.

The facility has received several major awards:

  • 2023 Aquatics & Recreation Victoria – Sustainability Award
  • Parks & Leisure Australia (VIC/TAS) – Community Facility of the Year
  • Parks & Leisure Australia (VIC/TAS) – Environmental Stewardship Award
  • Parks & Leisure Australia (National) – Community Facility of the Year
  • Parks & Leisure Australia (National) – Environmental Stewardship Award
  • 2023 Premier’s Sustainability Award – Sustainable Places
  • 2023 Australian Sport, Recreation and Play Innovation Awards – Sport and Leisure Facility Design

These excellent results reflect the high standard in design, construction and Council’s ability to deliver excellent customer services each and every day of operations.
