Municipal monitors appointed to Brimbank Council

The Minister for Local Government, the Hon Melissa Horne MP, has announced that two Municipal Monitors have been appointed to Brimbank City Council under section 179 of the Local Government Act 2020.

The appointment of Ms Janet Dore and Ms Penelope Holloway as monitors is to guide good governance and provide a report to the Minister at the end of their term.

Their appointment is effective for the period from 12 February to 31 December 2024.

The monitors will work closely with Councillors and the Executive Leadership Team during their appointment.

The Minister has appointed monitors to eleven councils across Victoria this Council term.

Brimbank Mayor Councillor Ranka Rasic said the Council was committed to working together for the best interests of the local community.

“I fully support and welcome the appointment of municipal monitors to improve behaviour and governance for our community’s benefit.

“It’s crucial for all Councillors to know their duties under the Local Government Act, and work together for Brimbank’s good governance and the best outcomes for the community.

“It is absolutely essential the local community has confidence in the governance of Council by all of the elected representatives,” Cr Rasic said.

For more information on the municipal monitors terms of reference, or any questions on the process or role of the monitors should be directed to Local Government Victoria.
